Moylan Hosting Town Hall Meeting on ComEd’s Smart Meters

In an effort to educate residents on new utility meters being installed in Park Ridge and other communities, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is hosting a Smart Meter Town Hall Meeting with representatives from ComEd on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Park Ridge Public Library, located at 20 S. Prospect Ave. in Park Ridge.

“Residents have asked me how these new meters will affect their utility rates and what to expect during the installation process,” Moylan said. “This town hall will allow residents to ask questions directly to ComEd, and help everyone better understand why smart meters are making their way into our communities.”

Smart meters are scheduled for installation for most of Park Ridge in October, while many residents in Des Plaines had their meters installed during the past year. Residents from all communities are welcome to attend. Proponents of smart meters claim they provide residents with access to more information about their energy use through online energy-management tools, which can help customers manage their electric bills. They also argue that the meters allow for faster power outage detection, resulting in residents going without power for shorter periods of time.
